“Charlie wanted me to tell you how much it means to him to have your magnificent book. He is astonished at the detail and accuracy of the presentation. He would like to know how long it took to do the research to achieve the publication. Thank you so much for your enormous undertaking. He has shown the book to our four children - and shared more about his WWII experiences than ever before.

With regards - Carol Nelson”

Hi John- I received your book yesterday at my home in -----.
It is a beautiful book, I was so mesmerized by it that I couldn’t pull myself away for browsing through it. The pictures were so clear and captivating, I felt like I was there. What a tribute you wrote about the Independence from her birth to her death. Your attention to detail is incredible from all the quotes and including nick names next to the names of the crew.

I look forward to reading it. It is certainly a comprehensive history. Thank you for your nice hand written note on the front. You should be very proud of your work with this. I feel honored to own such a mastery piece of work.

Fondly

Hello John,
Great to hear about the new FB page. Charles is really enjoying your book. He is amazed at the detail and every page brings back a memory of shipmates and life on the USS Independence during WWII.

Our son, USS Sacramento, First Gulf War, reads a bit every time he comes for a week-end; and my brother,
US Naval Academy 1966 and a pilot on the USS John F Kennedy, picks it up each time he visits.

What a masterpiece of research and a monument to your dedication! If you could send me your address, Charles and I want to honor you with a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Thanks for your unbelievable contribution to the living history of our "greatest generation."

Happy Easter to you and your family with our highest regards!
